2012 USRowing Southwest Junior District Championships Return to Lake Natoma
May 01, 2012
PRINCETON, N.J. – The first of four USRowing youth district championships will get underway this weekend, May 5-6 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. with the USRowing Southwest Junior District Championships.
Some 1,900 athletes from 32 clubs and 24 states will compete over the two-day regatta for not just medals and bragging rights, but for the chance to compete at the USRowing Youth National Championships June 8-10 on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
“Southwest Juniors is typically a region where a number of the championship crews at Youth Nationals come from,” said USRowing Southwest Region Programs Coordinator Paul Wilkins.
“These will be two very busy days on Lake Natoma, which is one of the best regatta sites in the country. It’s two very long days, with racing from eight in the morning until seven at night on Saturday and eight to four on Sunday. It’s all done on a beautiful, seven-lane course and the California State University-Sacramento Aquatic Center really puts on a good regatta.”

The Southwest Junior District Championships will be followed with the Mid-Atlantic District Championships May 11-12 in West Windsor, N.J. The Northeast District Championships, held in Worcester, Mass., and Northwest District Championships, held in Vancouver, Wash., will be run on the weekend of May 19-20. The Northwest is a three-day event that begins on the 18.
