Two Under 19 Crews Named, Finals Set for Under 23 and Senior Events at 2019 Mega Trials

Tuesday saw two additional crews named to the 2019 USRowing Under 19 National Team following morning racing at the 2019 USRowing Under 19, Under 23, Para and Senior Trials III. Additionally, repechage and semifinal races were held for under 23 and senior-level boat classes, setting the finals for tomorrow’s racing. 

In the first race of the morning, Saratoga Rowing Association’s Gil Dexter (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Peter Lawry (Alplaus, N.Y.) narrowly edged out the crew from Redwood Scullers to win the third race in the best two-out-of-three finals of the junior men’s double sculls. The Saratoga crew crossed the line in 6:38.39, just 0.45 seconds ahead of Redwood. Dexter and Lawry will represent the U.S. in the junior men’s double at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships August 7-11 in Tokyo, Japan.

The other final of the morning saw the junior men’s pair of Adam Campain (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and David Edington (Portland, Or.) from the Under 19 Men’s Selection Camp cross the line in 6:52.80, claiming first place and a spot on the 2019 USRowing Under 19 National Team. In yet another close finish, the two crossed the line just 0.87 seconds ahead of the crew from Oakland Athletic Rowing Society. Campain and Edington will represent the U.S. in the junior men’s pair in Tokyo. 

With the conclusion of today’s 12 semifinal and repechage races, finals are now set for tomorrow morning in the U23 and senior categories. Following the conclusion of racing tomorrow, 13 under 23 boat classes will be named to the 2019 USRowing Under 23 National Team, while eight para boat classes and seven senior boat classes will be named to the 2019 USRowing Senior National Team.

Winners of tomorrow under 23 trials will represent the U.S. at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 24-28 in Sarasota, Fla. while the winners of the para and senior trials events will represent the U.S. at the 2019 World Rowing Championships August 25-September 1 in Linz, Austria.
