USRowing Announces 2019 CanAmMex Roster

PRINCETON, N.J. – USRowing is pleased to announce the athletes who will represent the United States at the 2019 CanAmMex Regatta next week in Sarasota, Fla.

CanAmMex is a week-long, collaborative camp between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico that brings together rowers for a week of training, culminating in a regatta. This year’s event will be held at Nathan Benderson Park, with practice running from July 7-12 followed by the regatta on July 13-14.

“The CanAmMex Regatta serves two purposes,” said USRowing Under 19 High Performance Director Steve Hargis. “First, it brings together each country’s top developmental junior athletes, coxswains and coaches for friendly, yet high-level competition. Secondly, this regatta provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for its participants to represent their respective countries and also serves as a cultural experience.”

After several days of training, lineups will be solidified by July 12. Racing will be integrated into the U17/U18 ODP Summer Cup program July 13-14 and will include 12 events – men’s and women’s single sculls, double sculls, quadruple sculls, pair, four and eight.

The U.S. crews were selected by the coaches from the women’s and men’s U19 national team camps. Each coaching staff selected 12 rowers and one coxswain to send to CanAmMex, after determining the athletes who will be racing at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships.

“For many, CanAmMex will be an important step in development towards further U19, U23 and senior national team opportunities,” said Hargis. “All of these athletes are age-eligible, so all are able to return as part of next year’s selection camps and compete for seats on the junior national team going to Bled.”
