Yale and Washington Keep Strong Holds Atop of This Week’s USRowing/IRA Polls

With about a week to go until this year’s IRA National Championships, Yale University’s varsity eight continued to rank first in this week’s Intercollegiate Rowing Association/USRowing Collegiate Polls, while the University of Washington remained atop the second and third varsity eight polls, as well as the Men’s Ten Eyck Team Coaches Poll.

The Bulldogs, yet again, received all 11 first-place votes in the varsity eight poll. Washington held onto second place, while the University of California climbed up from fourth to tie with Harvard University for third. Brown University overtook Princeton University to round out the top five.

Washington earned all 11 first-place votes, an improvement from last week’s nine, and continued to top the men’s second varsity eight poll. Harvard University lept from fifth place to second and was followed by third- and fourth-place Cal and Brown. Princeton moved into fifth from sixth.

With 10 first-place votes in the men’s third varsity eight, Washington continued its lead over Yale, which remained in second place and received the other first-place vote. Princeton and Cal swapped positions to take third and fourth, respectively, and Harvard remained in fifth.

While the Ten Eyck Trophy standings saw changes throughout, Washington continued to lead with Yale in second. Harvard jumped to third, while Cal fell to third. Princeton rounded out the top five, same as in past weeks.

James Ten Eyck Trophy Points Poll: Points are determined by taking the totals from each event (Varsity, 2nd Varsity, 3rd Varsity) and multiplying them by their weighting in the Ten Eyck Formulas. (5x for Varsity, 4x for 2nd Varsity, 3x for 3rd Varsity. Points are then added up and totals divided by 10.
