By Dan Brauchli • May 17, 2019
With just two races set to take place, Friday’s schedule at the 2019 Senior Trials II/Para NSR/Speed Order II was a short one. The two repechage races gave six crews in the women’s double a second chance to advance to tomorrow’s semi-finals.
With the fastest time of the morning, the USTC – Princeton crew of Tessa Yurko (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Onyeka Oguagha (Lakewood, N.J.) won their repechage in a time of 7:26.56, 3.41 seconds ahead of ARION’s Meredith Kisting (Loves Park, Ill.) and Lauren Miller (St Cloud, Minn.). Yurko and Oguagha’s placement earned them a spot in tomorrow’s semi-finals. ARION’s second entry in the repechage, Morgan Hummel (Chesterfield, Mo.) and Ashley Johnson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished in a very close third, crossing the line in 7:30.07.
The first repechage of the morning saw Craftsbury Sculling Center’s Alex Spaulding (Watervliet, Mich.) and Taylor Goetzinger (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) advance to the semi-final after finishing first, posting a time of 7:32.10. The Craftsbury/New York Athletic Club composite crew of Charlotte Buck (Nyack, N.Y.) and Bridget Schodorf (Columbus, Ohio) finished second in 7:36.22, missing the semi-final by a few seconds. OKC High Performance Center’s Katie Gibbons (Olympia, Wash.) and Karina Feitner (Cummington, Mass.) finished in third, 13.61 seconds behind the Craftsbury/NYAC crew.
Racing will resume Saturday morning with semi-final racing for the women’s and men’s doubles, as well as repechage racing for the lightweight women’s and men’s doubles. Additionally, the C final for Speed Order II will be held Saturday to determine places 13 through 16 overall in the men’s double.
