Top of IRA/USRowing Collegiate Polls Remain Unchanged on May 8

Yale University’s varsity eight, Cornell University’s lightweight men’s varsity eight and Stanford University’s lightweight women’s varsity eight were the unanimous top choices in this week’s 2019 Intercollegiate Rowing Association/USRowing Collegiate Polls. The University of Washington continued to rank No. 1 in the second and third varsity eight polls, as well as the Men’s Ten Eyck Team Coaches Poll.

Yale continued as a unanimous No. 1 in the varsity eight poll, earning all 11 first-place votes. Washington ranked second, followed by Harvard University and the University of California. Princeton University moved up two positions into fifth place in this week’s poll.

The top five in the lightweight men’s poll remained unchanged. Cornell received all 11 first-place votes to once again take first. Princeton University ranked second, followed by Columbia University in third. Yale and Harvard rounded out the top five.

Likewise, the lightweight women’s poll remained unchanged with Stanford University continuing as the unanimous choice for the top position, earning all seven first-place votes. Princeton University ranked second, followed by Boston University and Harvard-Radcliffe. The University of Wisconsin and Georgetown University tied for the fifth spot in this week’s poll.

Washington continued to widen its lead on Yale for the top spot in the men’s second varsity eight poll. The Huskies received 10 first-place votes, while the Bulldogs garnered one first-place vote to rank second. California, Brown University and Harvard filled out the top five.

The Huskies earned 9.5 of 11 first-place votes to take the top spot in the men’s third varsity eight poll. Yale ranked second, earning the other first-place votes, followed by California, Princeton and Harvard.

Washington remained in the top position in this week’s Ten Eyck Trophy standings. Yale ranked second, with California in third. Harvard and Princeton rounded out the top five.

James Ten Eyck Trophy Points Poll: Points are determined by taking the totals from each event (Varsity, 2nd Varsity, 3rd Varsity) and multiplying them by their weighting in the Ten Eyck Formulas. (5x for Varsity, 4x for 2nd Varsity, 3x for 3rd Varsity. Points are then added up and totals divided by 10.
