Yale, Cornell, Stanford and Washington Start May Atop IRA/USRowing Collegiate Polls

Yale University’s varsity eight, Cornell University’s lightweight men’s varsity eight and Stanford University’s lightweight women’s varsity eight continued to top the 2019 Intercollegiate Rowing Association/USRowing Collegiate Polls. The University of Washington continued to rank No. 1 in the second and third varsity eight polls, while also moving into the top spot in this week’s Men’s Ten Eyck Team Coaches Poll.

The top five in the men’s varsity eight poll remained unchanged with Yale as the unanimous top choice, earning all 11 first-place votes. Washington ranked second, followed by Harvard University in third position. University of California and Brown University ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Cornell earned all 10 first-place votes to once again top the lightweight men’s poll. Princeton University ranked second, followed by Columbia University in third. Yale jumped Harvard to move into fourth position, with the Crimson ranking fifth.

Stanford University continued as the unanimous choice for the top position in the lightweight women’s poll, earning all seven first-place votes. Princeton University ranked second, followed by Boston University and Harvard-Radcliffe. The University of Wisconsin and Georgetown University tied for the fifth spot in this week’s poll.

The second varsity eight saw Washington widen its gap with Yale for the top spot. The Huskies received eight first-place votes, while the Bulldogs garnered three first-place votes to rank second. California, Brown University and Harvard filled out the top five.

The Huskies earned 9 of 11 first-place votes to take the top spot in the third varsity eight poll. Yale ranked second, earning the other first-place votes, followed by California, Princeton and Harvard.

Washington moved into the top position in this week’s Ten Eyck Trophy standings. Yale dropped into second, with California in third. Harvard and Brown rounded out the top five.

Points are determined by taking the totals from each event (Varsity, 2nd Varsity, 3rd Varsity) and multiplying them by their weighting in the Ten Eyck Formulas. (5x for Varsity, 4x for 2nd Varsity, 3x for 3rd Varsity. Points are then added up and totals divided by 10.
