Regatta Spotlight: Clemson Sprints Youth Regatta
By Jules Zane • March 28, 2019
Set to be held this Sunday, March 31, the Clemson Sprints Youth Regatta is our feature for this week’s regatta spotlight. Located on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. and hosted by the Clemson University Rowing Association, the regatta is set to draw teams from across the southeastern coastline to as far as Michigan and Connecticut.
“We are excited to bring the second regatta of the American Youth Cup back to Clemson,” said Regatta Director, Liam Reilly. “While it may only be the second time the American Youth Cup takes over this event, Clemson Sprints is celebrating its 30th edition this year.”
Inclusion in the American Youth Cup has allowed the regatta and program to invest in significant improvements, including last year’s brand new eight-lane starting dock.
“Our goal is for youth teams to want to come to Clemson to race against the most competitive and revered teams in the region,” Reilly explained. “The races will be more competitive and prestigious this year as we expect a large turnout from most of the youth teams in the region.”
To accommodate more teams and more attendees, the event has taken the next step in providing a great race day experience. There will be a variety of food trucks, newly designed regatta shirts and more for rowers and spectators to enjoy.
The men’s youth single is slated to be the biggest event this year with fourteen entries, closely followed with thirteen entries in the women’s youth single, and a dozen entries in the women’s youth four and men’s youth double.
