2019 U23 Selection Camp Applications Now Open

USRowing is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the four selection camps that will select boats to compete at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 24-28 in Sarasota, Fla.

Spearheaded by University of Washington men’s head coach Michael Callahan, the U23 open men’s camp will select the men’s eight, four and four with coxswain.  University of Virginia women’s head coach Kevin Sauer and Stanford University lightweight women’s head coach Kate Bertko will work together at the U23 open women’s camp to select the women’s eight, four, four with coxswain and quadruple sculls.

Princeton University lightweight men’s assistant coach Bill Manning will run the U23 lightweight men’s camp, selecting the lightweight quadruple sculls, while Boston University lightweight women’s head coach Malcolm Doldron will run the U23 lightweight women’s camp, selecting the lightweight women’s quadruple sculls.

The deadline to apply to all selection camps is April 1. Invitations will be sent out within two weeks following the close of applications. While the application deadline is April 1, all camps will accept late applications from qualified athletes in the event they have updated scores or results as their spring season continues. Open Men’s U23 Selection Camp

Anticipated Camp Fee: $900 (possibility of decrease in fee if funds available)

  • Fee includes coaching, equipment, facilities, housing, some meals

Camp Boats to Be Selected: 8+, 4-, 4+

Anticipated Cost of World Championships: Included in camp fee for camp boats

  • Potential for 2- and 2x to qualify through U23 Trials July 7-10

Lightweight Men’s Quadruple Sculls U23 Selection Camp

Location: Shea Rowing Center, 70 Faculty Rd., Princeton University

Head Coach: Bill Manning, Lightweight Men’s Assistant Coach Princeton University

Anticipated Start Date: Monday, June 10

Anticipated Camp Fee: $400

  • Fee includes coaching, equipment & facilities
  • Help will be provided to secure housing.

Camp Boats to Be Selected: LM4x

  • Athletes not selected for the 4x will have the opportunity to train and compete for the U23 Trials July 7-10 to earn spots on the U23 team via the lightweight men’s 1x, 2x and 2-.

Camp Boat Naming Date: July 10, 2019

Anticipated Cost of World Championships: $2,000

  • Fee does not include travel/airfare to Sarasota, equipment rental and transport, or coach fees
