For the first time ever, the World Rowing Under 23 Championships will be coming to the United States, and beginning today, tickets for the event are available for purchase online. General admission tickets are being offered to the public for $20 per ticket and will be valid for all five days of racing.
Supported by both Sarasota and Manatee counties, the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships will take place July 24-28 at Nathan Benderson Park in beautiful Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.
With Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates Inc. (SANCA) serving as the local organizing committee in conjunction with USRowing, the park will offer a one-of-a-kind experience for spectators. Aside from the world-class race course, it features a running and biking trail that borders the lake, as well as a white, sandy beach along the final stretch of the 2,000-meter course.
“The Sarasota-Bradenton community is ecstatic to welcome rowers and fans back to Nathan Benderson Park this year for the World Rowing Under 23 Championships,” said Visit Sarasota Director of Sports Shelby Connett. “This event is a great opportunity for families to see some of the best racing in the world and enjoy a fun summer vacation while they are here.”
Sarasota County is not only an ideal location for competition but also for summer vacation activities. Some of the world’s best beaches are close by, like Siesta Beach, voted TripAdvisor’s Best Beach in North America in 2015. Visitors also can sink their toes into Longboat Key’s 12 miles of sandy shoreline. And if anybody is traveling with a furry friend, they can visit the county’s only dog-friendly beach, Brohard Paw Park.
Enjoy wildlife and catch some shade at Ken Thompson Park and New Pass Fishing Pier. This family-friendly destination offers many outdoor opportunities. From trails to playgrounds, there is something for everyone. After an adventure-packed day, stroll the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and explore its living collection of more than 6,000 orchids.
For those who appreciate the arts, visit the Ringling Museum of Art, which opens its doors to the public free of charge once a week. Delve more into Sarasota’s historic arts scene and see a show at the Florida Studio Theatre, which produces many contemporary works.
In addition to the shopping malls around the corner from the course, there are numerous markets in the area. Head south to Historic Downtown Venice and shop at an array of independently-owned shops and dine at one of the many highly-praised restaurants.
In Sarasota, the waterfront restaurants and perfect eats for foodies alike seem endless. In 2016, it was named one of the Best Food Cities in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.
