USRowing Announces Four Selection Camps for 2019 Under 23 National Team

USRowing is pleased to announce the four selection camps that will select boats to compete at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, July 24-28 in Sarasota, Fla. Applications for all selection camps will be posted by March 1 with subsequent deadlines.

Spearheaded by Michael Callahan, University of Washington men’s head coach, the open men’s U23 camp will select the men’s eight, four and four with coxswain. Kevin Sauer, University of Virginia women’s head coach, and Kate Bertko, Stanford University lightweight women’s head coach, will work together in the open women’s U23 camp to select the women’s eight, four, four with coxswain and quadruple sculls.

Bill Manning, Princeton University lightweight men’s assistant coach, will run the U23 lightweight men’s camp, selecting the lightweight quadruple sculls, while Malcolm Doldron, Boston University lightweight women’s head coach, will run the U23 lightweight women’s camp, selecting the lightweight women’s quadruple sculls.

Open Men’s U23 Selection Camp

Location: Conibear Shellhouse, University of Washington

Camp Start Date: Monday, June 10, 7:00 a.m.

Anticipated Camp Fee: $900 (possibility of decrease in fee if funds available)

  • Fee includes coaching, equipment, facilities, housing, some meals

Camp Boat Naming Date: July 10, 2019

Anticipated Cost of World Championships: Included in camp fee for camp boats

Open Women’s U23 Selection Camp

  • Potential for 2- and 2x to qualify through U23 Trials July 7-10

Camp Boats to Be Selected: LM4x

  • Athletes not selected for the 4x will have the opportunity to train and compete for the U23 Trials July 7-10 to earn spots on the U23 team via the lightweight men’s 1x, 2x and 2-.

Camp Boat Naming Date: July 10, 2019

Anticipated Cost of World Championships: $2,000

  • Fee does not include travel/airfare to Sarasota, equipment rental and transport, or coach fees
