Rowing Industry Trade Association Supporting Safety Initiatives

As the crowds gathered for another year-end celebration of rowing at the 2018 USRowing Annual Awards Reception, the Rowing Industry Trade Association (RITA) presented a $15,000 check to USRowing to help push forward safety initiatives throughout all areas of the sport.
In a letter to USRowing, the trade association, which is comprised of more than 20 companies within the sport, wrote:
“We appreciate and support USRowing’s ongoing efforts and are proud to put financial and public support behind USRowing to further USRowing’s vital work towards the continued safety of the sport of rowing.
“We expect USRowing to continue to be among the leading national governing bodies participating in the USOC’s Center for SafeSport. We make this financial and public support in order to support other USRowing safety initiatives as well, including coaching education and sharing of best practices. And we hope to see USRowing make concrete steps in assuring learn-to-row athletes also learn to swim.”
The funding will be used to further promote the expansion of safety initiatives in coaching development, on-the-water safety, learn-to-row programs and many other projects.
“The member companies of the Rowing Industry Trade Association are proud to support the vital work of USRowing as we safely grow the sport of rowing,” said Chip Davis, chair of the association and publisher of Rowing Magazine.
Accepting on behalf of the organization, USRowing Chief Executive Office Patrick McNerney put into words what the founding of the trade organization and it’s support means to the greater rowing community.
“Seeing this many companies band together in shared support, that’s what makes rowing great,” said McNerney. “Boat manufacturers, apparel, media — this list is all encompassing. With their support, we, as an organization, can push forward to make sure that we keep our sport safe for all involved parties.”
As the calendar turns to 2019, USRowing is looking forward to working with all members of the rowing community to grow our sport and bring rowing to new heights, all while further protecting our membership both on and off the water.
