OAKLAND, Calif. — Founded in 1968, Marin Rowing Association is using the 2018 USRowing Masters National Championships as its focal point to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary. As it was originally founded by masters athletes, the championships made a perfect fit as the place to recognize the accomplishment of 50 years in action.
With 112 entries throughout the regatta, Marin is the second most represented club at the championships, behind San Diego Rowing Club, and currently sits atop the team points and women’s points standings. Victories in Saturday’s men’s open C double sculls, women’s open E eight, women’s lightweight D double sculls, men’s club C eight and men’s open B double sculls helped the club maintain their top ranking.
This evening, the club will be hosting its 50th Anniversary Boathouse Bash just across the San Francisco Bay at the club’s facilities. Marin will be welcoming more than 400 attendees for a night of food, fun and dancing. With members new and old, Marin Rowing Association continues to set an example of what a dedicated group of individuals can come together to create.
Afternoon finals were highlighted today by athletes from the 2018 U.S. National Team joining U.S. Men’s Head Coach Mike Teti to present medals to today’s champions. The group also was on hand for an open tap happy hour in the event’s Beer Garden, where competitors and spectators were able to socialize and take photos.
Results for today’s 56 finals can be found on HereNow.
Racing concludes tomorrow at the 2018 USRowing Masters National Championships with winners of the Overall Team Points Trophy, Men’s Overall Team Points Trophy sponsored by Saugatuck Rowing Club’s Veteran Men, Women’s Overall Team Points Trophy sponsored by The Mariner Insurance Group, Inc., Club Points Trophy and Efficiency Trophy will be crowned. In addition to racing and its vendor village, this year’s event features a Beer Garden, which will be open on Sunday from noon-6:00 p.m. Located on the second floor of the Lake Merritt Boating Center, patrons can sit back and relax while enjoying some of Oakland’s finest local beers. With an ideal location along the water and unobstructed views, the Beer Garden will provide an ideal location to relax, reminisce about races and show off medals.
All finals will be available via video on demand on USRowing’s YouTube page following competition. Additionally, photos will be available on USRowing.photos at the end of each day of racing. For more information on the 2018 USRowing Masters National Championships, visit USRowing and RegattaCentral.
