USRowing Announces 2018 Under 19 Women’s National Team Camp Invitees

USRowing is pleased to announce that the following athletes have been invited to participate at the 2018 USRowing Under 19 Women’s National Team Camps this summer.

With an end goal of making the team that will represent the U.S. August 8-12 at the 2018 World Rowing Junior Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, 53 rowers and coxswains will participate in phase one of the 2019 U19 Selection/Training Camp from June 16-July 3. Selected athletes will continue on to phase two, which will be held July 4-31 before the team departs for Europe. The United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., will serve as the primary training location for the group.

The U19 women’s eight, four with coxswain, four, and quadruple sculls crews will be selected at the camp. In addition, camp athletes also may get the opportunity to race at the 2018 U19 World Championship Trials for the right to race in the trials-selected small boats at the World Rowing Junior Championships.

The U18 Women’s High Performance Camp will run from June 16-July 15, allowing athletes to develop their skills as they also train out of the USCGA. The camp will bring together 36 of the top rowers and coxswains who were not selected for the selection camp and prepare them to compete at the 2018 USRowing Club National Championships as they represent the U.S. Junior National Development Program. This also provides camp experience to young athletes who will hopefully continue on in the under 19 national team system.

Young athletes seen as having potential to contribute to the the national team in the future will be invited to the U17 Development Camp. Here, athletes will participate in a high-level camp environment and get insight into elite racing. The 51 oarswomen and coxswains will train out of Old Lyme Rowing Club and Blood Street Sculls in Old Lyme, Conn., from June 18-July 9. Athletes will work in the four with coxswain, pair, double sculls, and single sculls, focusing on technical improvements.
