See You In Sarasota: Meet the Men’s Pair

Introducing the Men’s Pair crew of Anders Weiss and Michael Colella. Anders and Michael will be racing in Florida for the 2017 World Rowing Championships later this month.

The two will race in the men’s pair, a boat selected through the trials process. Weiss competed in the pair at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, while this will be Colella’s first Senior National Team appearance.

Q: What does it mean to you to be able to represent the U.S. at Worlds in your home country?

MC: Excited to put on a show for my friends and family.

AW: A lot. Home course advantage, having the family able to come, and having a crowd rooting for us is just extra motivation.

Q: Who inspires you and why?

MC: My teammates and coaches.

AW: Tom Brady. The discipline he has is incredible. He would have made an amazing rower.

Q: What do you wish you would’ve known as a novice rower?

MC: Enjoy winning, it is the best part of the sport.

AW: You can always pull harder.

Q: In what ways has rowing helped you in your life, outside the boat?

MC: It helps me stay tan all year long.

AW: Discipline and time management.

Q: If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

MC: A bear. Go Big Red!

AW: A bear; went to Brown!

Q: If you were stranded on an island, who from the team would you chose and why?

MC: Probably Anders, but I feel like I would do all the cooking.

AW: Mike, he’s a good dude and anything he could find, he would make edible.
