Filippi Supports USRowing Men’s Under 19 National Team

Competition is underway this week on Lake Galve in Trakai, Lithuania at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships and the U.S. men’s crews are representing the United States in Filippi racing shells.
USRowing finalized an agreement with Filippi earlier this year in which the Italian company will provide elite-level shells for the U.S. men’s under 19 national team through the 2020 World Rowing Junior Championships.
“We have 62 different molds to maximize performance in all weight classes, styles of rowing and conditions,” said Fabio Selvig, a sales representative with Filippi. “We also evaluate, and often redesign, every element of the boat, and have introduced proprietary technology for better ergonomics and performance: a foot stretcher with multiple adjustments and a new adjustable seat with 64 different position options.”
Filippi provided equipment to the silver-medal U.S. junior men’s eight in 2016. In a hull swap just three days prior to racing at the 2016 World Rowing Junior Championships, the U.S. crew came within 0.03 seconds of the gold medal.
“I like Filippi because it seems like every aspect of the boat utilizes the newest, quickest or most comfortable technology,” said U.S. junior men’s eight stroke seat Trey Holterman. “From the riggers, to the shoes, it is very apparent Filippi has not overlooked anything when trying to design the fastest eight hull.”
Over the years, Filippi has made its mark at major international competitions. At 2017 World Rowing Cup I in Belgrade, Serbia, 44 percent of the medalists raced in Filippi-brand shells. That figure increased to 45 percent at 2017 World Rowing Cup II in Poznan, Poland, and 62 percent at the 2017 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Filippi is a manufacturer of high performance racing shells, based in Tuscany, Italy. Athletes from more than 50 countries have raced Filippis and won hundreds of medals in world championship and Olympic competition since 1986. The company is an official supplier to the Italian Rowing Federation (FIC), as well as an official partner of the International Rowing Federation (FISA). It has been awarded ISO 9000 certification for outstanding quality control in manufacturing. The firm is represented in the U.S. by their exclusive agent, Elite Rowing, Inc., based in Boston, Mass.
