One Expiration Date for Memberships and Waivers

Dear USRowing members,

You talked, and we listened! Memberships and waivers expiring on different dates was unnecessarily confusing. Good news – your waiver will no longer expire at the end of every calendar year. Waivers are now valid for the duration of your membership, regardless of when you sign up. This means the same expiration date for both your waiver and membership.

In addition, we’ve made an important change to the waiver. It now includes an additional paragraph regarding SafeSport, the United States Olympic Committee program aiming to raise awareness, stopping child abuse in sport and creating a safe culture in sports programs across the country.

If your membership and waiver are current at this time, you do not have to take any action. If your membership or waiver may be expired, or you have a unique type of membership, please see the FAQ below:

1. I am already a member, do I have to pay again to sign the new waiver?
2. I’m a current member with a signed waiver, but my membership expires before the end of the year, what changed?
3. My membership is valid until 2018, what should I do?
4. I signed the waiver earlier this year but my membership lapsed, do I have to sign it again?
5. My program renews my individual membership, does anything change for me?
6. I am a referee or Lifetime Member of USRowing, what changes for me?
7. Why do I need a current membership and signed waiver?

If you have any questions or comments regarding these changes, feel free to reach out to USRowing Membership Services at members@usrowing.org or (609) 751-0700.

FAQ:

1. I am already a member, do I have to pay again to sign the new waiver?

No. If you have a current membership and waiver, the previous waiver will remain valid until the end of the calendar year. If your membership does not expire until 2018, you can log in and extend the waiver until the expiration date by signing the new waiver at no cost. If you have a current membership, but have not yet signed the waiver, signing the waiver is free of charge and it will be valid until the expiration of the membership.

2. I’m a current member with a signed waiver, but my membership expires before the end of the year, what changed?

The membership and waiver will remain current until the membership expires. The waiver will no longer remain valid the end of the year. In order to remain a member and sign the new waiver, you will have to renew your membership. Memberships can be renewed up to 90 days before expiration. Renewal prior to expiration adds 365 days of membership from the date of expiration. The new membership and waiver expiration date will become the same.

3. My membership is valid until 2018, what should I do?

Your existing signed waiver will remain valid until 12/31/2017. If your membership remains valid until a later date, you can log in to the Membership Portal and sign the new waiver at no cost to make the expiration date for your membership and waiver the same.

4. I signed the waiver earlier this year but my membership lapsed, do I have to sign it again?

Yes. If you signed the previous waiver earlier this year, but your membership has expired, the previous waiver is no longer valid and you will be prompted to sign the new waiver upon renewal of the membership.

5. My program renews my individual membership, does anything change for me?

Very little. If it is your first membership, or your membership has expired, you will be asked to log in, complete or verify your profile and sign the waiver. If this is a renewal before expiration, you will receive a renewal confirmation via email and will be able to log in to your account to extend the waiver beyond the previous expiration date. Your team can’t renew your membership until you’ve reached 90 days or less before expiring. (New memberships or renewals of expired memberships will expire 365 days from the date the team completes the group membership. If a current membership is renewed, 365 days will be added from the original date of expiration.)

6. I am a referee or Lifetime Member of USRowing, what changes for me?

Nothing. Your membership requirements will continue as they were. Lifetime Members will be able to sign a waiver valid for the calendar year. Referees will continue to have memberships valid for the calendar year and the waiver will reflect the expiration date of December 31st.

7. Why do I need a current membership and signed waiver?

The majority of USRowing organizational members and more than 200 registered regattas across the United States enroll annually into a liability insurance policy for rowing programs and events provided through USRowing. By becoming an individual member and signing the waiver, you enroll in the program provided by this plan. This is mandatory for all participants. Athletes who are not members at the time of an incident, whether during practice or competition, may not be covered by their club or the event’s policy. Championship Members receive additional insurance benefits.
