California, Cornell and Stanford Top the First 2017 Coaches Poll

PRINCETON, NJ – Coming off a strong win at the 2017 IRA Championships, University of California, Berkeley has earned sole possession of the number one spot in the first USRowing Coaches poll.
The Cal men had 10 first-place votes and will be looking to have an impressive start to their season this weekend at the San Diego Crew Classic. Joining Cal at the Crew Classic will be second-place Yale University. With five first-place votes, the University of Washington was ranked third. Harvard University and Princeton University rounded out the top five.
In the lightweight men’s poll, Cornell University clinched the top position with three first-place votes. Yale University ranked second. With three first-place votes, Columbia University finished third. University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Stanford University picked up where it left off last year and remained first in the lightweight women’s poll with four first-place votes. The Redwoods will be opening their 2017 season at the San Diego Crew Classic.
Following in second place was the University of Wisconsin and Princeton University in third. Boston University finished in fourth with one first-place vote. In fifth was Harvard-Radcliffe.
