PRINCETON, N.J. – Elite boat builder Filippi and USRowing have signed an agreement designating Filippi as an official equipment supplier to the U.S. Under 19 National Team, providing elite-level shells through 2020 to be used while training, as well as at the Under 19 World Rowing Championships.
“The U19 National Team is appreciative of the equipment offered by Filippi to support both our domestic training and international racing needs,” said U19 National Team Development Coach Steve Hargis. “We are hoping to build upon the U19 Men’s unprecedented results using Filippi hulls last year in Rotterdam medaling in three out of the four team sweep boat events.”
Under the agreement, Filippi will supply a fleet of four shells, 8+, 4+, 4x and 4-, to the men’s U.S. U19 team for domestic use. These boats will allow the nation’s top U19 athletes to train and race in world-class equipment while they prepare for international competition.
Filippi had previously sponsored the U.S. team from 2001-03, providing regatta support and boats and equipment at the world championships. With an impressive track record, Filippi boats are often the most frequently used boats at international regattas. Additionally, many athletes race their way onto the U.S. U19 National Team by winning trials regattas in the Italian-made boats.
“Through the partnership, members of the U.S. U19 team will now train in world-class equipment while they’re home and jump right into an identical boat when racing abroad,” said Alex Selvig, president of Elite Rowing, Inc., the U.S. distributor of Filippi shells. “They’ll be next to other Filippis on international starting lines. We’re excited to provide the U19 team with a competitive advantage over other nations when it comes to the quality, confidence, and level of comfort they have in Filippi boats.”
