Jimmy Sopko began rowing in 1998 a Mathews High School in Mathews, Va. He also raced for Mobjack Rowing Association. After Mathews, Sopko spent one year racing at the Gunnery School before attending the United States Naval Academy, where he captained the lightweight team his senior year.

After graduation from the Naval Academy in 2005, Sopko received a master of science in applied mathematics from Naval Postgraduate School and then served on USS Ford (FFG 54) as the communications officer and navigation officer.

In 2009 as a member of the Navy Sports Program, Sopko raced in the U.S. National Team lightweight men’s eight at the 2009 World Rowing Championships. When he left the Navy in 2010, Sopko began training full time with the U.S. National Team and did so through April 2012.

Post rowing, Sopko began work at Pinterest where he led operations and sales teams for four and a half years. After Pinterest, he led sales at Athos, a sports performance company that helped coaches and athletes train more effectively. Currently, Sopko leads North America East SMB Sales for Google Cloud. He lives in Menlo Park, Calif., with his wife Shaunnah (coxswain for Navy women’s crew) and their two children, Addison and Brooks.
