  • May Masters Feature: You Know the Drill

    May 02, 2013

I’m not much of a drills person myself, but there are a few I find I turn to again and again. As the weather continues to warm and we can finally think of more than just trying to stay warm in the boat, here are a few of my favorites.

  • April Masters Feature: Relax!

    April 01, 2013

While the calendar says it’s spring, it sure doesn’t feel like it here on the east coast! Despite that, I’m sure many of you are beginning to venture out onto the water to begin the 2013 season. There are so many things to think about during those first few weeks back in the boat, but none more important, I believe, than staying relaxed. • Row Like an Olympian: March Masters Feature

    March 06, 2013

In preparation for our 2013 season, John and I have been studying the 2012 Olympic Games Rowing DVD. There’s some really incredible racing and I highly recommend anyone getting a copy of the DVD. We buy ours through Regatta Sport and though not cheap, it is well worth it. You can watch in slow motion, go frame by frame, review certain races repeatedly and learn so much by breaking the stroke down into its parts.

  • February Masters Feature

    February 01, 2013

One of the interesting things about being a masters athlete is that I know there will come a time when I won’t be able to get any faster. In rowing, that time has long gone! But I took up swimming again as an adult about eight years ago and if I continue to improve my technique, I can continue to get faster, even though I’m not as strong as I once was.

  • November Masters Feature

    October 31, 2012

We just returned from a fabulous weekend at the Head of the Charles. Couldn’t have asked for better weather on Saturday, and Sunday, though cooler and breezy, was sunny and dry. With over 8,000 participants, ranging from beginners to Olympic gold medalists, from high schoolers (and younger), to 80+-year-old senior-veterans, it’s a great regatta for participants and spectators alike.
