Hosted by Vesper Boat Club, the U.S. Women’s National Team Pre-Elite Camp is focused on developing athletes for the Under 23 and Senior National Teams. The goal of this camp is to teach skills necessary to compete at the elite level by introducing and developing sculling, focusing on small boats, gaining fitness and increasing strength to weight ratio. Athletes will train intensely with 2-3 practices per day. They will row primarily in small boats and/or scull, and they will have opportunities to race throughout the summer.
Camp Details
The camp will be hosted by Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, Pa. It will start on June 6 and run through July 18 at the USRowing Club National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. There may be an option to continue through the Canadian Henley Regatta for those who are interested. If you have a school conflict with the start date, we should be able to accommodate. Please include those details in your application. Athletes will train at Vesper and will have the opportunity to race at the Independence Day Regatta, USRowing Club National Championships and possibly at USRowing Under 23 Trials, USRowing Elite National Championships, and scrimmage with the Under 23 and Senior National Teams. Ten to sixteen rowers and 1-2 coxswains will be selected for this camp. Josh Adam, who coordinated the camp last year, will be the head coach this summer. The rest of the coaching staff will be announced shortly.
The estimated camp cost is $1,500 due April 30. ($500 is a non-refundable deposit. If a person is sick or injured and cannot attend a single day of camp, $1,000 will be refunded assuming that spot can be filled by someone else). The cost of the camp includes: all coaching, equipment, facility fees, housing in Philadelphia, and hotel at USRowing Club National Championships. Food and transportation are not included. Housing in Philadelphia will be within biking distance from the boathouse. Transportation to regattas and other training sites will be coordinated among invited athletes prior to the camp. Payment information will be sent out with acceptances. Updated information can be found at www.usrowing.org.
NOTE: We do not want financial issues to keep qualified athletes from applying. If you have financial constraints or concerns about the camp, please include an explanation in your application.
