USRowing Men's Sweep Development Camps

University of Wisconsin Midwest Development Camp

Where: University of Wisconsin – Madison

What: Men’s sweep camp (with optional sculling opportunities)

When: June 26 to July 23

  • First Meeting: June 26, 4 p.m.
  • First Practice: June 27
  • First Race: Grand Regatta, July 8
  • Second Race: Chicago Sprints, July 15-16
  • Final Race: USRowing Nationals, July 19-23

Eligible Athletes: All pre-elite rowers high school age or older

Athlete Limit: 32

Training schedule: Typically, there will be a morning workout and an evening workout Monday through Friday and a morning workout on Saturday. There will be between 8-10 workouts a week.

Erg Requirements: 2k: 6:24 2.5k: 8:10 6k: 20:36

Coxswain Requirements: None

Coaches: Chris Clark, Eric Mueller, Matt Boyle, Dave Weiss, and others to be named later

Camp Fee: The camp fee has been between $300 and $400.

What the Camp Fee Covers: The camp fee covers entry fees, housing at races, camp t-shirt, and some regatta meals.

What the Camp Fee Does Not Cover: Housing while in Madison, meals while in Madison, transportation to and from regattas, any other costs not listed in the above section.

The camp will provide assistance in finding housing for the summer but will be unable to assist in finding employment.

Men’s Heavy Sweep Development Camp at Georgetown Boat Club

Dates: June 20 to August 4

Competitions Schedule:

  • Charm City Sprints, Baltimore, Md. -- Saturday, June 24
  • Independence Day Regatta, Philadelphia, Pa. --June 30-July 2
  • USRowing National Championships, Indianapolis, Ind. -- July 19-23
  • Capital Sprints, Washington, D.C. -- Saturday, July 29
  • Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, St. Catharine’s, Ontario -- August 8-13 

Camp Fee:  $90.00 to cover administrative and operational coast.  This does not include costs associated with participation in any given regatta (entry fees, shell transportation, lodging, etc).  Regatta fees will be collected on an event-by-event basis.

US Rowing Men’s Inland Northwest Development Camp -- Gonzaga University

Open to male rowers and male/female coxswain  – 12-16 athletes /1-2 coxswains

The camp will focus on small /large boat sweep and some sculling skill development.  Main race focus will be US Nationals in Indianapolis.  All athletes will have access to Gonzaga athletic facilities.

Dates:  June 24 - July 29

Cost: $375.00 -- This covers coaching, equipment, facility fees, racing fees and necessary racing gear. $45.00 -- USRowing membership if not a member. Housing, food, and most travel expenses are the responsibility of the athlete.

Time Commitment: Monday-Saturday Morning  - (actual time to be determined); Afternoons Monday-Friday – (optional conditioning and technical training); Availability for all races

Racing Schedule: 

Nelson Regatta -- Nelson, B.C.

US National Championships -- Indianapolis, Ind.

Housing and Work: Is ultimately the responsibility of the athlete, but assistance is available in finding affordable sublets and employment opportunities.
