2010 EAHI Criteria and 2010 Monthly Athlete Funding

Elite Athlete Health Insurance (EAHI)

A. Number of EAHI slots: 48 
B. Eligibility and Criteria Approved for EAHI:

April 1, 2010 – September 30, 2010

Up to 48 athletes will be offered EAHI on April 1, 2010, based on the following prioritized order:

Criteria 1

1. Returning medalists from the 2009 Senior World Championships in Olympic events.

2. Athletes who place in the top 50% of their event at the 2009 Senior World Championships in Olympic events.

3. Athletes receiving USOC direct athlete support.

Athletes must currently be training and competing on a program approved by their respective USRowing head coach to be considered.

Should all 48 slots not be filled using criteria 1, USRowing will fill vacant slots based on the criteria below (factors listed in no particular order).

Criteria 2

  • Demonstrated success internationally in an Olympic event during the previous 12 months.
  • Demonstrated success domestically in an Olympic event through National Team testing, National Selection Regattas (NSRs), other selection events or camps during the previous 12 months.
  • Competitive performance during training sessions.

Evaluations will be made by the High Performance Director, Head Coaches of the National Team, and the USRowing AAC representative or alternate.

October 15, 2010 – April 15, 2011

Up to 48 athletes will be offered EAHI on October 15, 2010 based on the following prioritized order:

Criteria 1

1. Priority to the 48 athletes in the Olympic class boats on the 2010 Senior World Championships Team.

Should all 48 slots not be filled using criteria 1, USRowing will fill vacant slots based on the criteria below (factors listed in no particular order).

Criteria 2

  • Demonstrated success internationally in an Olympic event during the previous 12 months.
  • Demonstrated success domestically in an Olympic event through National Team testing, National Selection Regattas (NSRs), other selection events or camps during the previous 12 months.
  • Competitive performance during training sessions.

Evaluations will be made by the High Performance Director, Head Coaches of the National Team, and the USRowing AAC representative or alternate.

Should there be any available EAHI slots left after all eligible athletes have either accepted or declined, those slots will remain unused.

2010 Monthly Athlete Funding Program

Funds are assigned to athletes on a quarterly basis as follows:

  • 1st Period January 1st – March 31st
  • 2nd Period April 1st – June 30th
  • 3rd Period July 1st – October 3rd (2010 Senior World Championship team named)
  • 4th Period October 4th – December 31st

The criteria considered for funding (in no particular order) is:

1st Period

  • Performance at 2009 Senior World Championships / 2008 Olympics
  • Competitive performance during training camps, training sessions and events
  • Submitted 6k to Head coach by Dec. 21st 2009
  • Demonstrated international success in the last twelve months

2nd Period

  • Performance at 2009 Senior World Championships / 2008 Olympics
  • Competitive performance during training camps, training sessions and events
  • Submitted 2k to Head coach by March 28th 2010
  • Demonstrated international success in the last twelve months

3rd Period

  • Performance at 2009 Senior World Championships / 2008 Olympics
  • April and May NSR/Speedorder results
  • Competitive performance during training camps and training sessions
  • Demonstrated international success in the last twelve months

4th Period

  • Priority to athletes named to 2010 Senior World Championship Team in Olympic events
  • August NSR results and 2010 Sr. Team trials
  • Competitive performance during training camps and training sessions
  • Demonstrated international success in the last twelve months

Each month $43,200 will be given out to athletes. Certain athletes will automatically qualify for certain funding levels depending on their 2009 performance.

Medalists

Athletes with a top three placement at the 2009 Senior World Championship in an Olympic event class will be guaranteed $1000 per month for the first two periods (i.e. first 6 months). They will need to sign and follow the 2010 Athlete Funding Contract to receive and stay at this level.

Eligible in 2010: W8+, W2-, W4x

Finalists

Athletes with a top six placement at the 2009 Senior World Championships in an Olympic event class will be guaranteed $800 per month for the first two periods (i.e. first 6 months). They will need to sign and follow the 2010 Athlete Funding Contract to receive and stay at this level.

Eligible in 2010: W2x, M2-

Olympic Qualification Standard

Athletes with a placement that would qualify the event for participation in the 2012 Olympics will be guaranteed $400 per month for the first two periods (i.e. the first 6 months). They will need to sign and follow the 2010 Athlete Funding Contract to receive and stay at this level.

The Automatic Olympic Qualification Standard is based on the performance required at the 2011 Senior World Championships to automatically qualify to participate at the 2012 Olympic Regatta. Placement listed below.

M8+   Top 7
M4-   Top 11

Eligible in 2010: none

All Other Athletes

All other athletes may be eligible for funding depending on their results as judged using the criteria for funding.  The minimum monthly grant for an athlete who is receiving funding will be $400 per month.

Eligible in 2010: all other athletes who sign and follow the 2010 Athlete Funding Contract

If an athlete doubles up in events they will qualify for funding based on their highest placing event.

Head Coaches’ Discretion

Excluding the Medalists, Finalists, and Olympic Qualification spots all other funding will be at the Head Coaches’ discretion.  Prior to each period, the Head Coaches will recommend a list of athletes and amounts.  This list will be reviewed by the High Performance Director (Matt Imes) and an athlete HPC member.  After it is finalized, the list of athletes and monthly amounts will be circulated to the HPC.

Athletes may be considered for additional discretionary funding based on their results in the criteria for funding.
