Athletes,
After reviewing the time commitment and financial costs associated for both the athletes and USRowing, we will not run a November Speed Order. The speed order has historically been an opportunity for coaches to observe athlete performance under less formal settings than selection trials.
At this point in the quadrennial, most athletes trying to make the Olympic team have already participated in multiple selection events during 2007 and 2006 and have had the chance to be identified by coaches and potential rowing partners.
Small boat selection for the Olympic Games will be made as outlined in the selection procedures at spring selection regattas and trials. Large boat camps will be established as outlined in the procedures and will also use performance at spring selection events.
While we understand the desire of many athletes for a head-to-head race to demonstrate their development since the Spring of 2007, USRowing will not be providing this through a Speed Order this fall. If you are an athlete, who for some reason has not been able to attend a previous selection event, and believes your performance warrants consideration, please contact the appropriate coach directly.
Regards,
Glenn Merry
