OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- National titles were awarded in 31 events on the final day of competition Sunday at the 2010 USRowing Club Nationals. Over the weekend, 68 national titles were awarded in junior, intermediate and senior-level events.

For the second consecutive year, Penn A.C. Rowing Association earned the overall team points trophy with a total of 467.25 points. For the fourth consecutive year, Penn A.C. also won the Sulgar-Barnes trophy for overall men’s points with a total of 257 points. The Marion D. Ventura trophy for women’s points went to Community Rowing, Inc. for the second consecutive year with 211.75 points; Penn A.C. was the runner up 210.25 points.

Penn A.C. won 14 national titles in the women’s intermediate single sculls, men’s junior A pair, men’s junior B double sculls, men’s intermediate double sculls, men’s senior double sculls, lightweight women’s intermediate quadruple sculls, men’s intermediate quadruple sculls, lightweight women’s intermediate four with coxswain, women’s senior four, men’s junior B four with coxswain, men’s junior A four with coxswain, women’s intermediate eight, lightweight men’s intermediate eight and men’s intermediate eight. 

In the women’s intermediate quadruple sculls, Penn A.C. won gold by 0.97 seconds in a 7:24.01. The silver medal went to All-American Rowing Camp in a 7:24.98, followed by Penn A.C. B for the bronze in a 7:32.65.

Community made a strong showing in junior racing – advancing a crew to the final in every women’s junior A and junior B event. The Boston-based club won five national titles Sunday in the women’s junior A eight, women’s junior A pair, women’s junior A single sculls, women’s junior four with coxswain and women’s junior B eight. 

“All week, they really stepped up,” said head coach Ethan Curren. “These kids showed a lot of toughness. They rowed in a lot of races but they seemed to keep coming back for more and I think we had a number of really extraordinary performances. Across the board, they have a lot to be proud of; they’re really great kids.”

In the women’s junior B eight, Community won with open water in a 7:39.54. Second to cross the line was Thompson Boat Club in a 7:45.50, followed by West Side Rowing Club in a 7:59.97. Community’s crew consisted of Alison Nagle, Elizabeth Barnett, Cicely Madden, Emily Corrolo, Lea Luniewice, Emily Carrolo, Elena Chavez, Emma Knudsen and Megan Florentino.
