Day Two Complete at the 2010 Under 23 and Junior World Championships Trials

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Racing at the 2010 Under 23 and Junior World Championships Trials continued Thursday at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J., despite an afternoon wind delay. Held in conjunction with the 2010 USRowing National Championships, trials winners will earn the opportunity to represent the United States at either the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 22-25 in Brest, Belarus or the 2010 FISA World Rowing Junior Championships August 4-7 in Racice, Czech Republic.


In the time trial of the women’s junior single sculls, the top four finishers advanced to the final. USRowing Junior Women Selection Camp’s Alycia Daloia-Moore crossed the line with the fastest time in a 7:51.485. USRowing JWSC’s Chloe Carry clocked an 8:01.510 in second, with teammate Margy Bertasi third in an 8:07.327. USRowing JWSC’s Margaux Holley rounded out the top four, finishing with a time of 8:11.204. 


USRowing Junior Men’s Selection Camp’s Alex Johnson and Patrick Donohue won the time trial of the men’s junior double sculls. Johnson and Donohue posted a time of 6:31.150, followed by teammates Jonathan Roscow and James Stafford in a 6:36.167. The Potomac Boat Club duo of Rob Rasmussen and Nader Al-Naji clocked a 6:36.462, with USRowing JMSC’s Max Meyer-Bosse and Graham Anderson in a 6:36.541.


USRowing’s JWSC’s Sophie Heywood and Alexandria Chrumka won the time trial of the women’s junior double sculls by 3.6 seconds. Heywood and Chrumka, a member of the 2009 U.S. Junior National Team, clocked a 7:09.880, followed by teammates Hannah Solis-Cohen and Liz Tadari in a 7:13.475. USRowing JWSC’s Maria Maydan and Melly Markovic posted a time of 7:14.636, with USRowing JWSC’s Susan Greenberg and Alex Zadravec rounding out the field in a 7:17.562.


Junior finals will be held in a best-two-out-of-three format, with the first set of finals scheduled to begin Friday at 7 a.m. In under 23 competition, finals are set with the completion of repechages in three events Thursday. 


With the top two boats to advance, University of Virginia Rowing Association’s Matthew Miller won the repechage of the men’s single sculls in a 7:16.797. Craftsbury Sculling Center’s John Hood crossed second in a 7:21.304. Miller and Hood join Wednesday’s heat winners Brendan McEwan of Potomac Boat Club and USRowing Development Camp – Atlanta Rowing Club’s David Judah in Friday’s final.


In the lightweight men’s single sculls, the top two crews advanced to the final. Lake Union Crew’s Michael Wales won the race by 5.3 seconds in a 7:20.629. USRowing Development Camp – Atlanta Rowing Club’s Sean Gibel finished second in a 7:25.998. Craftsbury Sculling Center’s John Graves and GMS Rowing Center’s Mike Orzolek join the field from Wednesday’s heats.


USRowing U23 Lightweight Camp MIT’s Patrick Cleveland and Nic Smith and USRowing Training Center – OKC’s Michael Nucci and Tyler Nase advanced from the repechages of the lightweight men’s pair. The two crews will join USRowing U23 Lightweight Camp MIT’s Chandler Mahaney and Cameron McAlpine and USRowing Training Center – OKC’s Christian Klein and Michael Kerrigan in Friday’s final.
