Personal: Esther is a three-time senior national team member who also rowed for three years on the under 23 national team…Esther was a volleyball player but transitioned to rowing, in part, at the suggestion of her best friend…She was named Newport Aquatic Center’s MVP for 2003…Esther also was a National Merit Scholarship Winner in 2003…The night before a race, she paints her toenails gold…Her parents, Karl and Christine Lofgren, were both elite rowers and her mother is her personal hero for all that she has accomplished inside and out of rowing…In the future, Esther hopes to win gold for the USA at worlds and the Olympics, at least once for a sweep event and once for a sculling event…She also hopes to work in appropriate technology and microfinance in either Zambia or Southeast Asia.
