2012 USRowing Masters National Championships are Massachusetts Bound

August 03, 2012

In another record-breaking summer regatta, masters rowers from across the U.S. will compete for national titles at the 2012 USRowing Masters National Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

Co-hosted by USRowing and Quinsigamond Rowing Association, the regatta will feature rowers ranging in age from 21-89 competing for national titles in 199 events. The four-day regatta, scheduled for August 9-12, includes 1,942 entries, the most in the regatta’s history.

Amongst those is attendance are 145 clubs from 36 states, eight Canadian clubs and an unaffiliated competitor from Mexico. The international crews are included in the 2,013 competitors but are not eligible for national titles.

The large number of entries follows suit with the most recent event in Camden, N.J. Much like the 2012 USRowing Club National Championships held in early July, record numbers are once again racing at USRowing championships this summer.

This will be the second time Lake Quinsigamond has hosted the USRowing Masters National Championships. The regatta was first held in Worcester in 2005.

The lake has also been the site of the USRowing Northeast Junior District Championships, ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Championship and ECAC Eastern Sprints so far this year.

Racing will begin Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m. on Sunday, with awards presentations interspersed throughout the regatta.

In addition to the racing, the local organizing committee has planned two events. “Ready, Row, Party!” will take place Wednesday evening prior to the regatta at Viva Renne Ristorante in Worcester. The second committee-sponsored event will begin Thursday evening at 5 p.m. Titled the “Master-Carb Loading Buffet,” it is a pasta buffet and for $20 rowers can dine with other competitors and spectators at the Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant.

Finals can be viewed live each day beginning Thursday, August 9, at http://www.ustream.tv/usrowing.

Press coverage of the event will be available at http://www.usrowing.org/Pressbox/Inteventcoverage/12MasterNationalsCoverage.aspx.

The 2012 USRowing Masters National Championships is the first of two masters’ championship regattas USRowing will host over the next two months. The first-ever USRowing Masters National Head Race Championship will be held September 16 on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. Currently home to the Head of the Cuyahoga, the 4,800-meter course involves strategy, curves, and fun. In addition to five major river turns (including an S-bend), gorgeous views of the Cleveland skyline are situated throughout the course. To register, visit www.regattacentral.com.
