Time Trials Kick Off Rowing in 2012 USRowing National Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The first boats to race in the 2012 USRowing National Championships rowed down a wind swept course on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J., last night in a time trial run to sort out the 14 entries in the lightweight men’s single sculls.

First among the competitors was New York Athletic Club’s Tom Paradiso. The 2008 Olympian finished with a time of 6:49.168. The top 12 finishers move on to the morning heats. Last to make the cut was the Angry Fish entry of Robert Iuliano, who clocked a time of 7:27.829.

In all, 103 crews are entered in the 18 events that will take place June 27-29. Among the crews racing are six London Olympians, including the U.S. men’s pair of Silas Stafford (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Tom Peszek (Farmington Hills, Mich.), and the U.S. lightweight men’s four crew of Robin Prendes (Miami, Fla.), Nick LaCava (Weston, Conn.), Will Newell (Weston, Mass.) and Anthony Fahden (Lafayette, Calif.). The lightweight men’s four will be racing in two events including the men’s pair and the men’s four.

Racing will resume Thursday morning at 8 a.m. with heats followed by afternoon repechages. Finals will take place Friday morning.
