BACKGROUND
The U.S. women’s eight, under the direction of head women’s coach Tom Terhaar, is the six-time defending world and Olympic champions. Last month in Lucerne, the U.S. set a new world best time in the event, and is the team to beat in London. The women’s quadruple sculls crew won silver at the 2011 World Rowing Championships and bronze last month at 2012 World Rowing Cup II. The U.S. women’s pair (Sarah Zelenka and Sara Hendershot) and men’s pair (Silas Stafford and Tom Peszek) recently qualified at the Olympic Trials – Rowing on June 14. The lightweight men’s four (Robin Prendes, Nick LaCava, Will Newell and Anthony Fahden) and the women’s double sculls (Sarah Trowbridge and Margot Shumway) qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games with a win last month at the 2012 Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland.
