USRowing Universal Membership Program and the Basic Membership Category
May 29, 2012
There has never been a more exciting time in our sport, across all age groups and in all parts of the country! Rowing is growing at every level from learn-to-row for middle school students to thriving masters programs. Juniors are racing in record numbers, college participation is on the rise, fledgling programs are being formed at a rapid pace and new events come onto the schedule every year, providing the growing number of rowers with new places to compete.
There is also exciting news in rowing among historically underserved communities, with urban youth across the country enjoying the benefits of rowing and the increased participation in adaptive rowing.
The future of rowing has never been brighter. As a result of this growth, membership programs are being designed that will better address the needs of rowers, families, coaches, regatta directors and referees across the country.
Introduction
During the past two years, the community came together in discussions on the topic of a universal membership program, where every rower in the United States would benefit through a direct and relevant relationship with USRowing.
The USRowing staff and Board of Directors have evaluated this input. The Board will be discussing the addition of a Basic Membership category to the current membership structure to better serve our sport at its meeting on June 9, 2012.
The following is a description of the Basic Membership program and posted to the USRowing website for public comment. Comments can be made via email at basicmembership@usrowing.org.
