2012 USRowing Mid-Atlantic Junior District Championships Set for Friday

May 10, 2012

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior racing continues this weekend with the Mid-Atlantic Junior District Championships May 11-12 in West Windsor, N.J.

The two-day event will see 37 clubs from the region compete on Mercer Lake in 30 events, some with the hopes of earning the right to race next month in the USRowing Youth National Championships June 8-10 on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

"We are excited to see the growth this event has experienced over the past three years,” said USRowing events manager A.J. Dominique. “This year's event will be the largest Mid-Atlantic Junior District Championships, with 1,000 competitors representing 37 organizations throughout the region. For the first time, we will have racing over two days, with races scheduled for Friday evening, and then a full day of racing on Saturday.

"Working with the Princeton National Rowing Association to hold the event on the nationally recognized course on Mercer Lake, this regatta promises to offer crews a high-quality opportunity to earn one of three bids to youth nationals, as well as allowing novices and junior-varsity crews one of their only opportunities to compete in a full racing progressions with heats, semis and finals, making this truly a championship experience for all athletes in attendance."
