The rusty is a full stroke pausing at body angle for a brief moment, then going back to the finish position for a brief pause, then taking the full stroke again pausing at body angle. It’s a good drill to establish timing, balance, and rhythm. An easy progression to teaching and executing this drill would be to start off by pairs, then fours, sixes, etc. One stroke at a time, then two, then three, etc.
