Quarter Track Rowing
Date: 5/18/2007

By Matt Imes

There are lots of uses for rowing at various track lengths. It can be used to help establish rhythm, find stability, or as builders to help with ratio and rating.

This clip shows an eight rowing easy at quarter track. The purpose of this drill was two-fold -- establishing a positive ratio and keeping early body preparation.

When coaching the drill, we like to see the hands and body established in the recovery phase before the seat is released onto the track. When this is done effectively, it gives a distinct rhythm and length to the stroke. It is a good clip that shows easy boat movement and relaxed ratio/rhythm.
