Golden Oars Awards Dinner

USRowing is pleased to announce the inaugural Golden Oars Awards Dinner, presented by One Equity Partners/JPMorgan Chase & Co., is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30, at the New York Athletic Club in New York City.

Co-hosted by USRowing and the National Rowing Foundation (NRF), the dinner will honor excellence in the sport during 2011 and serve as a fundraiser for USRowing’s national teams and its diversity, inclusion and adaptive programs. The celebration will feature a presentation of several of USRowing’s traditional awards, as well as the introduction of the new USRowing “Fan’s Choice” Awards.

USRowing President Don Langford, Dick Cashin, NRF Vice President Dr. Jo Hannafin and Fairfield University Women’s Assistant Rowing Coach John Brisson, all prominent members of the rowing community, will serve as honorary co-chairs.

While USRowing maintains a strong and long tradition of rewarding excellence in rowing, this year, for the first time, the rowing community will be invited to participate by nominating and voting for their favorite athletes and coaches of the year.

Co-sponsored by row2k.com, the USRowing “Fan’s Choice” Awards will be presented at the Golden Oars Awards Dinner. For more information including nomination criteria and guidelines, please visit http://www.usrowing.org/Events/FansChoiceAwards.aspx.

In addition to the “Fan’s Choice” Awards, USRowing will present five of its longstanding awards that recognize members of the rowing community for their service and commitment to the sport including the USRowing Medal of Honor, Jack Kelly Award, Jack Franklin Award, and Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards at the dinner.

USRowing also will present two new annual awards – the Anita DeFrantz Award, honoring leaders in diversity and inclusion, and the Adaptive Rowing Award, recognizing achievement in adaptive rowing. The remaining USRowing awards will be presented at the USRowing Annual Convention in Hartford, Conn., later in the week.
