Collegiate Coaches Poll: 5/18/05

California and Western Washington Top Final Women’s Collegiate Coaches’ Polls

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of California at Berkeley took over the top spot in the final USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll, while Western Washington University topped the final Division II poll. The Division III poll concluded last week.

In Division I, the California received 15 of the 24 first-place votes to take over the top spot in the poll following its victory at the Pacific 10 Championships. Yale University received eight first-place votes to move into second place, while The Ohio State University received the remaining first-place to rank No. 3. Princeton University and Brown University rounded out the top five.

Western Washington University was once again the unanimous choice for the top spot in the Division II poll, earning all five first-place votes. Barry University ranked second, while Mercyhurst College and Nova Southeastern tied for the third position. In last week’s final Division III poll, Trinity College earned the top spot.

Harvard Tops Men’s Eight Poll; Wisconsin Unanimous Choice in Women’s Lightweight Poll
 
INDIANAPOLIS – Harvard University kept the No. 1 ranking in this week’s USRowing Men’s Varsity Eight Collegiate Coaches Poll, while the University of Wisconsin moved up to No. 1 in the USRowing Women’s Lightweight Eight Collegiate Coaches Poll.
 
Harvard garnered 11 of 13 first-place votes to remain No. 1 in the men’s rankings. The University of California at Berkeley ranked second, earning the remaining two first-place votes. Princeton University, the University of Washington, and Northeastern University rounded out the top five.

The University of Wisconsin earned all seven first-place votes to move into the top spot in the lightweight women’s poll. Princeton University ranked second, followed by Radcliffe, Stanford University, and Georgetown University.
