Collegiate Coaches Polls: 4/23/08

California, Western Washington and Trinity Top USRowing/CRCA Women’s Rowing Polls

The University of California at Berkeley claimed the top spot in this week’s USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll, while Western Washington University and Trinity College topped the Division II and III polls, respectively.

California received 18 first-place votes this week to remain atop the Division I poll. Yale garnered six first-place votes to rank second. Virginia ranked third, followed by Washington State and Tennessee.

For the sixth consecutive week, Western Washington was a unanimous choice for the top spot in the Division II poll, receiving all six first-place votes. Dowling College ranked second, while Philadelphia University ranked third.

Trinity College received six of nine first-place votes to take the top spot in the Division III poll. Williams College earned the other three first-place votes to rank second. Bates College, The United States Coast Guard Academy and St. Lawrence University rounded out the top five.

Washington Tops Men’s Eight Poll; Princeton and Yale Top Lightweight Polls 

The University of Washington once again topped this week’s USRowing Men’s Varsity Eight collegiate coaches’ poll, while Princeton University and Yale University earned the No. 1 ranking in USRowing’s women’s varsity lightweight eight and men’s varsity lightweight eight coaches polls, respectively.

Washington earned 15 of 21 first-place votes to keep the top spot in the men’s varsity eight poll. Brown University ranked second, followed by Wisconsin, Harvard and Princeton. Brown received one first-place vote, while Wisconsin received the other five.

Princeton received nine of 11 first-place votes to earn the top spot in this week’s women’s lightweight eight poll. Stanford ranked second, followed by Radcliffe and Georgetown. Stanford received the other two first-place votes.

Yale earned the top ranking in this week’s men’s lightweight eight poll. Yale received nine of 10 first-place votes. Princeton, which received the other first-place vote, ranked second, followed by Navy, Cornell and Dartmouth.
