The Foundation for Rowing Education and USRowing
are pleased to announce a new series of national and regional workshops for Winter/Spring 2008.
 
Intro to SAFECoxing  

For the new (or experienced) cox: Safety, boat handling, hazards, docking, launching, commands, emergencies, traffic, weather, etiquette, Coxbox© use and insights for the experienced cox. 

Improve your know-how or get started...safely.

Also included: how to get the most from your coach.
 
Also offered:

Coaching the Coxswain 

How to find coxswains, keep them, coach them, develop better race (and practice) coxswains and communicate clearly with your coxswain. For coaches, program directors and coxswains.

The Coxswain Workshop Instructors:

Laura Simon-Rich: Laura coxed at the University of California at Santa Barbara and at the University of Massachusetts as varsity coxswain with Coach Jim Dietz. She trained as a coxswain under Hartmut Buschbacher. Laura has coached collegiate, high school and masters rowers.

Jeanne Friedman (Learn Coxing from a Coach): Jeanne Friedman has been the head coach at Mount Holyoke College since 1991. She also is a gold medalist, United States lightweight champion and has medalled at masters nationals regattas. Coach Friedman is a member of the NCAA Regional Seeding Committee and a founding member of Boston University’s crew. She also has coached at the University of Pennsylvania and for several masters programs.

Other regional instructors will lead workshops.

Rowing RoadCrew Workshops

The Foundation for Rowing Education is pleased to announce that the first RowingRoadCrew workshops, “Safe Trailer Driving,” are now taking place. Please visit the Foundation for Rowing Education Web site at www.rowingeducation.org for more information about the organization and its programs.

General Information on the Workshops

We want you to be safe behind the wheel (and in-front of 60 feet of very valuable equipment). If you are pulling just one 4+ or $250,000 worth of boats, this clinic is for you.   

Included in the Safe Trailer Driving Workshop:

  • The new USRowing Trailer Driving DVD
  • WinTech Trailer Driving Manual (in-depth information and loads of diagrams)
  • Laminated Checklists for Drivers
  • Safe Trailer Driver Certificate
  • USRowing Coaching Continuing Education Credits
  • Hands-on Driving Experience (when logistically possible)
  • Lunch

The Workshop will Cover Such Topics as:

  • Hooking up the truck to the trailer
  • Tying down shells
  • Steering, backing up & using a spotter
  • Weather
  • Truck & trailer size
  • Liability
  • Hands-on driving experience!
  • And much more

Cost: $125 per person for all of the above.
