There will be an Adaptive Classification Workshop for those individuals interested in becoming National Classifiers for Adaptive Rowing from April 20-22 at St. Joseph’s Boathouse in Philadelphia, Pa.
This workshop is for people interested in learning how to be an adaptive rowing classifier. There are two types of classifiers: Medical and Technical. Medical Classifiers must be a physical therapist, occupational therapist or physician. Technical Classifiers must be a rowing coach, sport scientist, former rower, physical educator or similarly qualified person. Experience with the sport of adaptive rowing is encouraged for participants.
The workshop is limited to 20 participants, with representation from as many areas/programs as possible. We may need to limit participants based on location. The goal of the workshop is to train as many classifiers as possible throughout the U.S. If you are interested in participating, please complete the registration form below and return it to Judy Morrison by March 20 via e-mail to jborkpt@aol.com. The workshop is free of charge.
The presenters will include Judy Morrison, FISA Chief Classifier; Jeff McGinnis, FISA International Classifier – Technical; Mary Ellen Conaboy, FISA Adaptive Commission Member; and Karen Lewis, U.S. Adaptive National Team Coach. We are currently looking to block a group of rooms at a local hotel. Transportation will be provided to/from the hotel and St. Joseph’s Boathouse for participants who require it. More details will follow once all registration forms are received.
Athletes wishing to become classified also are welcome and encouraged to attend. Those athletes interested in competing in FISA sponsored events or trying out for the U.S. National Team must be classified. In order to compete in any International Regatta, athletes must be classified by a FISA International Classifier. In the future, we plan to change the classification system for the Bayada Regatta to the FISA Classification System, so that it is more suitable as a national event.
