The 2019 World Rowing Championships were held August 25-September 1 in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria

In total, the U.S. qualified 12 boats for Tokyo including eight boats for the Olympic Games and all four boats for the Paralympic Games, while winning six medals to finish in a tie for fourth in total medals. Only Great Britain qualified more boats combined for the Olympics and Paralympics (13) than the U.S. in Linz.

The U.S. won gold in the lightweight women’s pair and PR3 women’s pair, silver in the PR3 mixed four with coxswain, and bronze in the women’s single sculls, women’s eight and PR3 mixed double sculls.

The U.S. qualified the women’s single sculls, women’s double sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, women’s pair, women’s four, men’s four, women’s eight and men’s eight for the 2020 Olympic Games, while also qualifying the PR1 women’s single sculls, PR1 men’s single sculls, PR2 mixed double sculls and PR3 mixed four with coxswain for the 2020 Paralympics.

The 2019 World Rowing Championships also are the initial step in the selection process for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as they serve as the first opportunity for countries to qualify their boats (not individual athletes) for 2020.
