2018-19 Election Information
It is an exciting time for rowing in the United States. As we look ahead into the future of our sport and as an organization, USRowing will need to leverage the passion, diversity and strength of our community to continue to grow and improve our sport.
USRowing invites nominations from our members to join our team and encourages members with diverse backgrounds to submit their candidacy for the Board of Directors or Referee Regional Coordinator positions as we build the future of our sport.
Nominations for the following positions are due Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
- Elected by the Organizational Members in their respective regions: the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest Regional Positions on the Board of Directors. These positions are for a three-year term of office.
Mid-Atlantic Regional Position: Currently held by Joe Manion, who will seek re-election for a second term.
Midwest Regional Position: Currently held by Bill Donoho, who will seek re-election for a second term.
- The Male and Female Vice Chairs on the Board of Directors are up for election by the Individual Members of the association. These positions are for a three-year term of office. Individual Members shall consist of individual persons who are full-privilege, individual members (Championship Members) of the Association.
Female Vice Chair: Currently held by Marcia Hooper, who will seek re-election for a second term.
Male Vice Chair: Jim Dietz will term out after serving three consecutive terms and is not eligible for re-election.
The Board encourages nominees who have skills and backgrounds in finance, legal, sponsorship and marketing, coaching, and/or collegiate rowing to broaden and deepen these skills on the Board of Directors.
Referee Regional Coordinator Positions:
- Elected by referees in their given region, the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest Referee Regional Coordinator Positions. These positions are for a three-year term of office.
- Elected by referees in their given region, the Southwest Referee Regional Coordinator Position is up for a special election for the remaining two years of the current term of office.
Interested parties should declare their intent by submitting the nomination form and disclosure form with all required materials no later than the date indicated below to USRowing and acknowledge acceptance of the responsibilities and duties of the position that they seek by signature on the self-nomination form.
All prospective candidates must have been individual members of USRowing as of July 1, 2018, and submit to the requirements of the USRowing SafeSport policy. To protect athletes and all members of the USRowing community, part- and full-time employees of USRowing, members of the Board of Directors and USRowing committees, coaches, referees, volunteers that have direct access to athletes over the course of several days, and vendors with direct access/interactions with athletes are required to undergo criminal background checks; receive education and training; and be familiar with the USRowing SafeSport reporting, investigation, and hearing process.
Ballots for member-elected positions, including the Mid-Atlantic Regional Position and Midwest Regional Position, and the Male and Female Vice Chairs on the Board of Directors, will be distributed after the Date of Record (December 18, 2018) and before January 2, 2019. Completed ballots must be submitted for receipt no later than February 1, 2019. The term shall commence on the first Monday of March 2019. In order to vote, members must be in good standing by December 1, 2018.
Ballots for the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Southwest Referee Regional Coordinator Positions will be distributed to referees in those respective regions after the Date of Record (December 18, 2018) and before January 2, 2019. Ballots must be received no later than February 1, 2019. The term shall commence on the first Monday of March 2019. In order to vote, members must be in good standing by December 1, 2018.
