2017-18 Election Information

2017-18 USRowing Call for Nominations 

USRowing invites nominations from members to join our team and submit their candidacy for the Board of Directors, Referee Committee, High Performance Committees or Referee Regional Coordinator positions.

Nominations for the following positions are due Tuesday, November 21, 2017.

Board Positions:

  1. Elected by the organizational members in the respective regions: the Southeast and Southwest Regional Positions on the Board of Directors. These positions are for a three-year term of office. Note: In accordance with the Special Meeting Notice regarding the proposed Bylaw changes, if the Bylaw changes pass, this election will not occur.
  2. The Athlete Representatives to the Board of Directors are up for election by those athletes eligible to vote under the Bylaws (see definition below). These positions are for a four-year term of office. Note: In accordance with the Special Meeting Notice regarding the proposed Bylaw changes, whoever receives more overall votes shall serve as the initial Athlete Member Director if the proposed Bylaws amendment passes.
  3. In accordance with the Special Meeting Notice regarding the proposed Bylaw changes, USRowing also will be accepting nominations for the Membership Director for Zone IV under the proposed new Bylaws. If the proposed amendment passes, the election in January will be for the Membership Director for Zone IV under the new structure.

Standing Committees:

  1. The Athlete Representatives to the High Performance Committee, Junior High Performance Committee and Adaptive Committee are up for election by those athletes eligible to vote under the Bylaws (see definition below). These positions are for a four-year term of office
  2. One (1) At-Large Referee Committee member is up for election by the Board of Directors in office at that time. This position is for a three-year term of office.

Referee Regional Coordinator Positions:

  1. Elected by referees in their given region, the Southeast and Southwest Referee Regional Coordinator Positions. These positions are for a three-year term of office.

Nominations

Interested parties should declare their intent by submitting the nomination form and disclosure form with all required materials no later than the date indicated above to USRowing and acknowledge acceptance of the responsibilities and duties of the position that they seek by signature on the self-nomination form.

All prospective regional candidates and membership director zone candidates must have been individual members of USRowing as of July 1, 2017, and submit to the requirements of the USRowing SafeSport policy, which includes a criminal background check.

Voting Process

Ballots for the Athlete Representative positions to the Board of Directors, High Performance Committee, Junior High Performance Committee and Adaptive Committee will be distributed on December 1, 2017. Completed ballots must be submitted for receipt no later than December 21, 2017. The term shall commence on January 1, 2018. In order to vote, athletes must meet the criteria published in the Bylaws.

Athlete Members [USRowing Bylaws: Article II, Section 11(A)]

Athlete members shall consist of those individuals who meet the following definition of “athlete”: an individual who has represented the United States in the Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American or World Championships within the preceding ten (10) years (“Athlete Member”).

The 10-year measure will constitute athletes representing the United States from 2008-2017.

Ballots for member-elected positions, including the Southeast Regional Position and Southwest Regional Position, will be distributed after the Date of Record (December 18, 2017) and before January 2, 2018. Completed ballots must be submitted for receipt no later than February 1, 2018. The term shall commence on the first Monday of March 2018. In order to vote, members must be in good standing by December 1, 2017. This election will not take place if the proposed Bylaw changes pass.

In accordance with the Special Meeting Notice regarding the proposed Bylaw changes, if the proposed amendment does pass, the ballots for member-elected positions, including the Membership Director for Zone IV, will be distributed after the Date of Record (December 18, 2017) and before January 2, 2018. Completed ballots must be submitted for receipt no later than February 1, 2018. The term shall commence on the first Monday of March 2018. In order to vote, members must be in good standing by December 1, 2017.

Ballots for the Southeast and Southwest Referee Regional Coordinator Positions will be distributed to referees in those respective regions after the Date of Record (December 18, 2017) and before January 2, 2018. Ballots must be received no later than February 1, 2018. The term shall commence on the first Monday of March 2018. In order to vote, members must be in good standing by December 1, 2017.
